Notre Dame de Paris, 10:30 pm, April 2006
The facade of Notre Dame had been covered with tarps and scaffolding since the mid-1990s.  When I saw the cathedral in the spring of 2006 I almost gasped -- the work had been completed and the result was breathtaking.  I wanted to get the camera close enough to the light-washed facade to take in some of the newly exposed detail. I can look at this photograph and instantly recall that experience of seeing Notre Dame as if for the first time.
