Montmartre, 2:30 pm, May 2013
The Roman Catholic Basilique du Sacré-Coeur sits atop the highest hill in Paris. Despite its prominence (or perhaps because of it), it isn't easy to get a distinctive photo of this landmark. So when I spotted this unusual view from the top of the Galéries Lafayette department store, I willingly overpaid for an espresso in a rooftop café to get an unobstructed shot. Seen through a long telephoto lens, the church and its hillside neighbors on Montmartre look more closely intertwined than ever.
